Our Best Chance

Story

By Monica Hall

If you want a change in this world ... start from within they say....... and that is exactly what Ally did.

HEYSEN 105 HAS BEEN RUN !

Ally made it across the finish line in 16hrs and 39 mins  and 21secs.

As the picture of health and vitality, surrounded by love and good wishes from  friends and family Ally commenced the 105km run at 07:00am

At each CheckPoint (CP), Ally's smile radiated as brightly as the sun burnt down, her incredible support team, of friends, family, loved ones cheered her on, she amazed each of us with her brightness and her fitness,

Ally had trained so hard and now, it was paying off .... Yet at Check point 5, the last, 89km in, Ally arrived at 8:20pm worn out, a wobble in her legs, in pain, the heat of the day, the hills, the distances covered, all now making their mark.... It was dark and cool and thank goodness a buddy could run with her.

With her dearest Gabby at her side, and her wonderful husband Phil, and friends Pablo and David on trail bike, Ally set off, What she endured on this final leg I do not know, for it was only her determination that she had left in anything more that fragments as she headed out for the final 18km...

3 hrs and 20 mins of sheer pain  (I can only assume)..... and Ally crossed that finish line - completely spent...

Ally is a hero in it's true meaning .... of exceptional courage, nobility and fortitude....

Ally saw the effects of advancing Parkinson's Disease and wanted to change it's cruel trajectory and she   has given us Our Best Chance to do just that and all of you have responded…. by donating, encouraging, passing on our link and we say to you all  the sincerest of thanks, your generosity and thoughtfulness throughout these past months has been outstanding.

With our love and immense gratitude

Monica, Ally and the whole team behind "Our best Chance"

    Shake It Up Australia Foundation

Shake It Up Australia has a clear mission: To find the cure for Parkinson’s

There are an estimated 100,000 Australians living with Parkinson’s with another 38 diagnosed every day. 20% of those diagnosed are under 50 years old. With your help, we can change this!

Shake It Up has partnered with the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to fund the world’s best research in Australia targeted at finding better treatments and ultimately a cure.

100% OF YOUR DONATION GOES DIRECTLY TO RESEARCH.  THAT’S RIGHT 100%!  Our founding directors cover all general expenses of the Foundation ensuring every cent of your donation makes a real difference in the quest to find a cure for Parkinson’s.

    About Shake It Up

Shake It Up Australia Foundation together with our partner at The Michael J. Fox Foundation are the largest non-government funder of Parkinson's research across multiple institutes in Australia.   Founded in 2011 we have funded over $11.5M in research targeted at finding better treatments and ultimately the cure.

The Foundation was established by Clyde Campbell, a father of three and business owner who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009 at the age of 44.

Clyde set out to find out as much as he could about the disease and determine what he could do in a practical sense to assist. His search led him to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) in the United States and the remarkable work they do to fund medical research targeted at finding better treatments on the path to a cure for Parkinson’s disease.

The approach MJFF takes to assessing, funding and project managing the world’s best research all over the globe eliminates redundancy, ensures efficiency and unites the global community in the quest to find a cure.

Clyde realised that funding Parkinson’s research was the best thing that he could do to help himself, his family and the 100,000 other Australians living with the disease. With that clear in his mind, Clyde founded Shake It Up Australia Foundation (SIUAF) to give other Australians the opportunity to join his quest.
